Tax progressivity and social welfare with a continuum of inequality views

چکیده
We develop a framework for analysing the loss of social welfare due to taxation, where tax progressivity and regressivity, measured by Kakwani index, are given interpretation in terms gain loss, respectively. Our generalises Son (J Econ Inequal 19:185–212, 2021), taking account intermediate inequality views, continuum combinations relative view (equal change all incomes does not inequality) absolute inequality). The taxation is decomposed into three components, one being generalised which accommodates views. show that progressive (regressive) tax, moving closer reduces (increases) importance (regressivity) impact tax. perception regressivity thus affected taken. empirical application considers Croatia.

متن کاملa comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection
supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...

This paper applies asymptotic and bootstrap inference methods for a set of non-linear inequality and progressivity indices. The non-degenerate U-statistic theory is applied to indices which are functions of several U-statistics. Generally, U-statistic variance estimators are difficult to compute. Formulae for a straightforward plug-in estimator of index variances have been derived. This is espe...
متن کاملLinear Inequality Concepts and Social Welfare
The paper presents ab abstract definition of linear inequality concepts leading to linearly invariant measures and characterizes the class of linear concepts completely. Two general methods of deriving ethical measures are proposed. They imply an Atkinson-Kolm-Sen index and a new dual index reflecting the inequality of living standard. Then all separable social welfare orderings which generate ...
متن کاملOptimal Tax Progressivity: An Analytical Framework*
What shapes the optimal degree of progressivity of the tax and transfer system? On the one hand, a progressive tax system can counteract inequality in initial conditions and substitute for imperfect private insurance against idiosyncratic earnings risk. At the same time, progressivity reduces incentives to work and to invest in skills, and aggravates the externality associated with valued publi...
